Troubleshooting

This is commonly caused by a missing Java plugin.  To fix this:

  1. Visit Java.com
  2. Click the "Do I Have Java?" link.
  3. Allow the program to run and check for missing plugins.
  4. If you are prompted, install the missing plugin.
  5. Follow the directions to install the plugin/update.
  6. Some browsers will prompt you to run the program which will start the installer, it may look like it has disappeared but give it time to load and open the install window.  Other browsers will require you to download the file.  Once the file has downloaded you will need to find the file and open the file to start the installation.
  7. After installation, close the browser completely, re-open it, and now try the program at login.keyboardingonline.com

If you still have issues, your next best bet would be to try another browser (Firefox) and then try it again. If you are currently running AVG as your antivirus software then it is possible that the program is being blocked from opening. Please click here for instructions on how to enable/disable the Surf Shield and Search Shield. Please follow these directions before contacting the support staff.

Logging in is easy, but you need a little information from your instructor first.
  • Visit http://login.keyboardingonline.com
  • Enter your school login and password and hit enter
  • *HINT* Your school login and password are usually the same.
You should now be logged in and ready to go.  Please remember, the school login and password are probably not the same username and password you use for things at your school.  If you forget your password, contact your teacher.

This is an error message that means we have recently updated our program.  If you are getting this message, it means that you have an older version of the program stored on your computer, and the website is pulling it from the cache instead of downloading the latest version.  You can usually clear the cache by holding down the Shift or Ctrl key and clicking the refresh button on the webpage.

If you still get the error, visit this site and follow the directions listed.

If you upgraded to Windows 8, you will need to re-install the Java Plugin. You can open up your browser and navigate to Java.com and click "Do I Have Java?".  The script will search for Java on the computer, which should end very quickly and say that it couldn't be found, and there will be a big red button that now says "Download Java".  Click the button and select "Run" when the dialog pops up so that the installer will run automatically when it is finished downloading.  Follow the steps in the installer and then it will be installed and you can open the program.

If the program was working in Firefox and then suddenly stopped working, please ensure the plugin is still enabled.  Firefox will automatically disable the Java Plugin if it detects it may be out of date.  By re-enabling it, even if it is an older version, it will work and stay enabled.  Although we do recommend updating to the latest version to stay secure.

  • To re-enable the plugin, open Firefox.
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+A to open the Add-ons Manager.
  • Select Plugins from the left column.
  • Find Java(TM) Platform.....(version information)
  • Click the button that says 'Enable'
    • If the button says 'Disable', then it is already enabled.
  • Close the manager and visit the program page again and it should now launch just fine.

That should fix the issue completely and will be fine from there on.  If the plugin was already enabled and it wasn't working, then there may be another issue with
anti-virus software or a firewall that is causing the program not to
work.  Please look at those tutorials to disable the anti-virus software to allow Java to function normally.

Some of the errors that may appear are "Internet Explorer has stopped trying to restore this website. It
appears that the website continues to have a problem.
" or "A problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab."

The reason this happens is 1 of 2 things: either you are using an out of date Java Plugin and would need to visit Java.com to update your plugin, or you have a plugin/toolbar installed that conflicts with the Java Plugin.

To remedy the situation, you should first make sure your Java Plugin is up to date by visiting Java.com and clicking the "Do I have Java?" link on the main page.  After updating your Java Plugin, if you are still seeing the message, the easiest thing to do is use another browser like Firefox or Chrome.  Using a new browser will fix the problem because it will have no pre-installed, third-party toolbars or plugins.  Download one of those other browsers, install it, and then try using the program.  It may have you re-update the Java Plugin, or have you allow permission to use the Java Plugin, but it will work great.

You can only manually delete scores one by one in the View Student Progress > Simple Progress Report > Right click on the score > Select Delete.

Many teachers have often asked why they can't delete an entire semester's worth of scores.  The reasoning behind this is that if we had a button somewhere to do that, there will inevitably be a teacher who accidentally clicks that and loses the scores for their entire semester.  We want to help avoid the major headache that would cause for the teacher and us trying to figure out a way to solve the problem.

So the next best thing we can do to delete all the scores is to basically delete and re-add the students.  There is a very easy way to do this.
  1. In the teacher manager, go to Class Manager and select the class whose scores will be deleted.
  2. Click the "Export Class" button on the right hand side and save the file in a easy-to-find location.
  3. Now create a new class where you will be re-importing the students.
  4. Go to "Create Student Files", and click the "Import" button under the "Import Student From List"
  5. Find that file you just exported, select it, and click "Open"
  6. Now you will see the first student appear in the Student Name box along with the password for that student.
  7. Select the new class for that student that you just created, and select a profile for this student.
  8. Click "Create Student File" and that student has now been created!
  9. The next student from the list is automatically loaded up, the class should still be selected, and the profile should still be the same.
  10. Continue clicking "Create Student File" until no more students appear.
Now you should have your new class with all your students filled in with their names and passwords the same as the class before, but with no scores recorded for them.

At this point, you can return to the Class Manager and delete the old class if you haven't done so already.

To assign a created lesson to the class, you need to first create a lesson.  After the lesson is created and saved, you need to assign it by going into the Profile Manager.
  1. Open the Profile Manager.  Find the profile that your students use and click Edit Profile.  If your class has more than one profile in use, you will need to do this for all the profiles that are in use.
  2. Under tab "4 - Sections", you will see the drop down for Created Lessons on the right.
  3. Find your created lesson under the drop down.
  4. Assign a percentage to the lesson.  If you leave it at 0%, the students can still work on the lesson, but it won't count towards their grade (making it optional).
  5. Save the profile in the last tab.

That is it!  When the students log back in, they will be able to see the Created Lesson in their Create Lesson menu and work on it.
