Keyboarding Online

Learning Management System Integration

With Keyboarding Online’s newest feature, you can now integrate directly with your Learning Management System (LMS). This brings tons of benefits to the program and the way your students access the program.

What is an LMS?

Learning Management System is a type of software that you set up for your class. You are probably using one and you didn’t know what it was exactly. Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Edmodo, Desire2Learn, Instructure, Schoology, etc.

As a teacher, you can go in and customize your class, add modules and lessons for the students, and create quizzes and assignments for the students.

One of the benefits of using an LMS is that it allows you to integrate with other 3rd Party Applications. 3rd Party applications write some code to do a handshake and establish trust with the LMS. After the handshake and the authentication, the LMS will send the student over to the application and they can do work.

How Do I Get Started?

Every LMS is going to be a little different, but the authentication handshake (also known as LTI) is the same everywhere. You will probably have to play around with your LMS or ask an IT person for some help if you can’t quite figure it out.

Keyboarding Online offers a 3rd Party Application, or External Tool, that you can set up inside your LMS. When configuring the External Tool, you will be asked for several parameters, these can all be found inside the Teacher Manager application in the LMS Integration section.

You will copy and paste those settings from the Teacher Manager into your LMS and that is it!

What Benefits Does this Provide?

The biggest benefit is automatic student creation and single sign-on functionality. After adding Keyboarding Online to your LMS, students will just click a link inside their course and they will be launched directly into the program.

If the student doesn’t exist yet, they will automatically be created and logged in.  If you decide to use Keyboarding Online’s LMS integration, students will not have to remember their school login or their personal password.
